Director of Sales – Position Overview

Location: Michigan

Quality Solar is seeking an experienced, results-driven Director of Sales to lead, manage, and scale our solar sales organization across Michigan. This senior leadership role is responsible for revenue growth, team performance, and disciplined execution of the sales process across residential and commercial markets.

The Director of Sales will build high-performing sales teams, establish systems and accountability, and work closely with ownership and operations to drive predictable and profitable growth.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Leadership and Strategy

• Develop and execute statewide sales strategy for residential and commercial solar 
• Own revenue targets, forecasting, and pipeline health 
• Establish and enforce sales KPIs including close rates, cycle times, margins, and cancellation rates 
• Drive consistent execution of the full sales lifecycle across the organization 

Team Management and Development

• Recruit, onboard, train, and mentor Solar Sales Representatives 
• Manage a sales team of 3-6 members 
• Conduct ride-alongs, call reviews, and in-field coaching 
• Hold sales staff accountable to activity, performance, and quality standards 
• Develop career paths from Sales Representative to Sales Manager and beyond 
• Address underperformance decisively and fairly 

Process, Systems, and Reporting

• Oversee CRM usage and ensure accurate data entry and reporting 
• Standardize proposal quality, pricing discipline, and presentation standards 
• Collaborate with operations to ensure smooth handoff from sale to installation 
• Continuously identify bottlenecks and improve sales efficiency 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with marketing on lead quality, campaigns, and conversion metrics 
• Work with finance on pricing strategy and profitability 
• Coordinate with operations and project management to reduce cancellations and improve customer experience 

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of solar or in-home consultative sales experience 
• At least 2 years of experience in a sales leadership or management role 
• Proven track record of building and leading high-performing sales teams 
• Strong understanding of solar system design, pricing, and financial modeling 
• Data-driven mindset with strong forecasting and analytical skills 
• Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication abilities 
• High integrity, professionalism, and ability to lead by example 
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Michigan 
• Ability to pass background and drug screenings 

Compensation and Benefits

• $75,000 to $90,000 Competitive base salary plus performance-based bonus and standard sales commissions
• Team production overrides tied to sales performance through at risk-bonus

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in the full sales cycle, from lead generation to closing deals.
  • Leverage specialized software to design customized solar solutions tailored to customer needs.
  • Analyze customers’ energy consumption patterns and calculate financial return on investment (ROI) for solar systems.
  • Create and present project proposals and quotes, offering clear and compelling value propositions.
